Hi,我是康禧，英文名Natalia，是广州外国语学校IBDP课程2023届毕业生。

我从小就对艺术感兴趣，它陪伴了我整个成长过程。因此对于我来说，学习艺术不仅是一种爱好，艺术更是我的未来想要探索的领域，也是未来我想从事的职业。艺术对我有很大的吸引力。学习艺术让我的本我和自我联系起来，用一种几乎直觉的方式表达自己并沉迷其中。

在申请艺术院校的过程中，作品集是非常重要的一部分，你能针对你的专业，分享一下你的作品集创作经验吗？

对于申请用的作品集，大多数学校要求展示15-20页最好的作品，以展示你的潜力，个性，创造力，技术水平。他们对主题和材质没有特定的限制，可选择创作任何你喜欢的东西，不过需要稍微考虑一下你申请的专业，如果你的作品种类正好适配你申请的专业，就更好了。

例如，我申请的大多数学校的插画专业。插画和动画是用视觉表达将故事可视化。在作品集里，需要展示包括富有想象力的作品，需要展示对颜色、构图和风格化的控制力。

还需要展示叙事的插图(数码绘画或传统绘画)，书籍封面，以及带有个人特点和经验的概念插画。大多数学校都要求人体素描，真人写真图等。

在学习IBDP视觉艺术课程和准备作品集的过程中，你面临的最大挑战是什么？

主要困难之一是不断完善作品的过程。这个过程让我不得不反复的修改同一件作品。

虽然有时我真的觉得修改的过程是无止境的，但它实际这个过程让我像一位艺术家一样，不断提升我的创意，技能和作品的质量。

对于想要在IBDP视觉艺术课程中取得优异成绩的学弟学妹们，你有什么建议吗 ？

1 在大学申请方面：

每所艺术院校都有不同的要求和期望。

首先，了解并记录你理想学校的确切入学要求，有针对的性提交作品集。然后对于其他学校，将作品集稍作调整以适应各其他学校。

2 时间安排方面：

制定时间表，做好时间管理。这有助于学弟学妹们更好地处理IB课程和学校申请。

系统地、定期地处理你的作品集，我从十年级就开始筹划和准备了。

3 IB视觉艺术学习方面：

想要在IB视觉艺术课程中取得好成绩，必须熟悉评分方案和评估标准。

给skethbook拍照并记录每一次成长。此外，你是需要投入大量的额外的上课之外时间去完成你的作品集的。

  Hello, everyone! My name is Xi Kang, but you can also call me Natalia. I am a graduated student from GZFLS IB Diploma Programme in 2023. As I remember, I was interested in Art since I was a kid, and it’s accompanied me throughout the whole growing-up process. So, it was only natural for me to want to pursue my interest in visual arts not only as a hobby, but to consider it as my future profession, since this field holds a great appeal for me. Engaging with art allows me to connect with my inner self and express myself in an intuitive manner, which is why I am drawn to it.

Usually Art and Design Schools, Universities and Colleges require a practical Art Portfolio as a part of the application process. Could you share if there are any specific requirements for the portfolio in the major you choose?

  For digital portfolio most of the schools required 15-20 pages of your best works, which demonstrates your potential, personality, creativity, and level of technical skills. And there is no specific limitation on the theme, topic or medium. So basically I can draw whatever I like. Of course it will be good if your portfolio will be appropriate for the degree you are applying for. For example, for most of the schools I applied, I chose illustration. For Illustration and Animation it’s about telling stories visually. The portfolio can include imaginative pieces that demonstrate your use of color and composition, narrative story-driven illustrations (digital or traditional), book covers, and a concept painting of a personal moment or experience. Most of the schools ask to include figure drawings from a live model and observational drawings.

A strong aspect of your works is the detailed exploration of concepts, the deep meaning behind the works, and the high level of technical skills. What inspires you and what do you believe contributed to your ability in these areas?

   Indeed I like to dig complex concepts. Usually my inspiration comes from other artists works (in terms of interesting concepts, most of them are contemporary artists), novels and movies etc. In other words, everything I’ve read or experienced can lead to the produce of my own artwork. As for the technical skills, I think it comes from the very fundamental skills (such as the knowledge of human anatomy, light and shade, form and structure, composition…). Although the knowledge seems very basic, it take large amounts of practice to improve.

As you studied IBDP Art course and prepare your university portfolio, what was the biggest challenge you faced?

   One of the major difficulties is to keep refining the work. I had to keep working on the same work for many times. Although sometimes I really feel like the refining process is endless, it actually improves the quality of my ideas, skills and techniques and my overall development as an artist.

What suggestions can you give for our high school Art students, who want to attain excellent grades in IBDP Arts course and be admitted to their dream university?

1.   In terms of college applications, be aware that every art school has different requirements and expectations. Consider and record the exact admissions requirements of your dream school first, then make adjustments to fit other schools.

2.  Make timetable and do time management. This helps you to handle both IB course and school applications better. Work on your art project systematically and regularly. I started my planning and portfolio preparation from grade 10.

3.  To get good results in IB Visual Arts course, be familiar with the mark scheme and assessment criteria, systematically document the process either in the sketchbook or use electronic means. In addition, it may be necessary to devote extra time outside of regular class hours to complete the work in a good quality.
