This thinking habit greatly enhances her efficiency in studying. While others may need to practice problems repeatedly to understand formulas or key concepts, Angela only needs to solve them once, quickly grasping the main knowledge points. For instance, in mathematics, she always tries to find a solution when encountering a new problem. Instead, she approaches it from various angles, utilising mathematical tools to gain a deeper understanding. Through multiple problem-solving strategies, she comprehensively reviews, comprehends, and applies mathematical knowledge. Similarly, in her English studies, when learning a new word or phrase, Angela contemplates its application in practical contexts. Combining the dictionary's English interpretations and delving into the word's meaning, she masters language knowledge through genuine comprehension rather than mere memorisation.


"Angela's strong academic background and unwavering passion for learning are her distinguishing strengths," reiterated her UGO teacher.


During her three interviews at the two colleges, Angela's profound understanding of subject knowledge and her genuine love for academic inquiry left a lasting impression on the admissions interviewers at the University of Oxford.

回首申请牛津大学的历程,Angela觉得,在申请过程中,自己于学术上的收获,远胜于一份offer带来的成就感。能够顺利获得录取,这背后是学科老师、班主任、升学老师的共同付出,这是属于她的一份幸运。


在升学季,各种“名校攻略”纷纷扰扰,虚实参半。作为一名毕业生,Angela既要追求学业成绩,还要分析最可能获得的录取机会。因此,她慎重地为学弟、学妹们提出了建议:


“学弟、学妹们面临申学之时,切记要主动获取一手信息。本校的升学老师对我们的个人情况有全面的了解,他们更关心我们的个体需求。所以请学弟、学妹更要信任学校提供的资源和信任升学老师的专业判断,齐心协力做好一步步申请工作。”


Angela认为,有些机构往往会站在大数据的角度,评估每个学生的录取机会,有可能会给出误导性信息。而她就是属于大数据之外的个例:相比“牛剑苗子”,Angela暂无辉煌的系列竞赛成绩,亦不依赖题海战术以获取更佳学科或语言成绩。在此条件下,学校的老师们为其探出一条“强学术”的升学道路。

Reflecting on her application journey to the University of Oxford, Angela believes that the academic growth she experienced far outweighed the sense of achievement that came with receiving an offer. The collective effort of her subject teachers, class teachers, and admission counsellors led to her acceptance, which she considers a fortunate outcome.


The abundance of real and virtual "prestigious school guides" during the admissions season can be overwhelming. As a graduate, Angela understands the importance of pursuing academic accomplishments and analysing her realistic chances of admission. Thus, she offers some valuable advice to her fellow students:


"When facing the application process, remember to take the initiative to gather first-hand information. Our UGO teachers understand our circumstances and are genuinely invested in our unique needs. Trust the resources provided by the school and the teacher's professional judgment, and proceed with the application step by step, working together."


Angela recognises that some institutions evaluate each student's admission prospects through big data, which may lead to misleading information. However, she is an exception to the patterns observed by big data. Angela hasn't achieved remarkable results in a series of competitions, nor does she rely on rote memorisation to excel in subjects or languages. Nevertheless, her teachers identified a "strong academic" path for her.

对知识的追求永不止步,Angela在牛津大学笔面试结束后,还获得了2024年美国数学竞赛(AMC)全球优秀奖,并获邀参加美国数学邀请赛(AIME)。

Angela was honoured with the 2024 American Mathematical Competition (AMC) Global Excellence Award. She earned an invitation to the American Mathematical Invitational Competition (AIME).


Furthermore, Angela emphasises that every student possesses unique strengths and weaknesses, and her chosen academic path may only suit certain individuals. She encourages younger students to independently gather first-hand information from official university websites, conduct thorough research on universities and majors, and understand their learning pace and application rhythm. By doing so, they can better understand the requirements and suitability of their target universities.
